Very brief summaries of the plots of 15 of Shakespeare's plays, also of plays by William Congreve, Thomas Otway, Thomas Southerne, and Nicholas Rowe and of romances by Tasso and Ariosto. Has no apparent connection with his Notes upon some of the obscure passages in Shakespeare's plays ... 1805.

Playwright Thomas Southerne was born in Ireland and educated at Dublin's Trinity College. He travelled to London to study law, but found success as a playwright; his first play, The Persian Prince, included a noble character based on King James II, and Southerne was rewarded with a military commission.
